11/1861-6/1862.
Dropped 6/17/1862 when unit reorganized.
Company D of Spaight's Battalion was made up principally of Tyler County
men. This company joined Likens' Battalion at Sabine Pass in 1861, and
became a part of Spaight's Battalion in June 1862. It also later saw action
at the Battle of Calcasieu Pass, LA on May 6, 1864. With the activation of the
21st Texas Infantry in November, 1864, Company D was redesignated as
Company H, Spaight's 21st Texas Regiment. James Gautney Collier was
a Captain in Company D, Spaights Battalion, Texas Volunteers during the
Civil War.
He was married to Elizabeth Ann (Eliza) STEWART (daughter of John August
STEWART and Lucretia (Lucy) WYNNE) on September 27, 1832 in Early
County, GA. Elizabeth Ann (Eliza) STEWART was born on May 24, 1816 in
Oglethorpe County, GA. She resided between May 24, 1816 and 1829 in
Oglethorpe County, GA. She resided between 1829 and 1843 in Early
County, GA. She died on April 2, 1843 in Blakely, Early County, GA. She was
buried in Blakely City Cemetery, Early County, GA.
