Charge to the Sons of Confederate Veterans:

"To you, Sons of Confederate Veterans, we submit the vindication of the  Cause for which we fought; to your strength
will be given the  defense of the Confederate soldier's good name, the guardianship of his history,  the emulation of his
virtues, the perpetuation of those principles he loved and  which made him glorious and which you also cherish.
Remember, it is your duty to  see that the true history of the South is presented to future  generations."

- Lt. General Stephen Dill Lee, Commander General, United Confederate Veterans, New Orleans, Louisiana, 1906

Please Join us in defending your Confederate Heritage

Membership in the Sons of Confederate Veterans is open to all male descendants of any veteran who served
honorably in the Confederate armed forces. Membership can be obtained through either direct or collateral family lines
and kinship to a veteran and must be documented genealogically. The minimum age for membership is 12.

Camp Members can help with finding and documenting your Confederate ancestor.  Dues are $35 per year and that
includes a subscription to the "Confederate  Veteran". We are a small Camp and would like to increase our numbers.
Not  all our members are active due to heavy work loads and other commitments.  However, they want to be counted
as someone who cares about their ancestry and  participate when time allows. $35 is a small price to pay to keep your
heritage  alive. To look at it another way, the dues are less than 10 cents per day. That is a very small price to pay to
save your heritage and an important piece of American History.

The OCR is dedicated to assisting the SCV it all of it's endeavors. The OCR is open to all males and females 10yrs or
older. Proof of Ancestry is not required for membership. You just need to have the Confederacy in your heart! For
more information on joining the OCR contact Johanna Pate at lasocr@bellsouth.net or call her at 318-793-5198.

First of all, we are not associated with any other organization other than  the Military Order of the Stars and Bars and
the Order of Confederate Rose.

We are not a racist organization.

Our purpose is to honor the many brave men who were willing to face any hardship, up to and including death, in the
defense of their Constitution, Government, and homes. Let us remind everyone that they were not the invaders. We
strive to honor those who lost their lives, homes, property, and way of life during one of the darkest periods in
American History. We try to educate everyone to the fact that the war was not fought to preserve slavery. We know
that slavery was an issue, but challenge anyone to prove that slavery was the cause of the War Between the States.

We work hard to preserve Southern Heritage. We aggressively fight Heritage  Violations such as the removal of the
Confederate Flag from state capitol in  South Carolina and the removal of Civil War Books at East Beauregard
schools. We don't go out looking for fights, but we will not give another  inch in the battle to keep our Confederate
symbols and memorials.

As a Camp  we have many activities during the year. Some of these activities are tedious,  hard work. Most are pure
fun. Activities include:

  • Lee - Jackson Banquet: This is a formal Banquet held each year to honor the January Birthdays of Generals
Robert E. Lee and Thomas J. Jackson.
  • Battle of Hickory Creek: This is the camp's pride and joy. We sponsor this reenactment to educate people about
the soldier's lives during the war.    It starts off on Friday with a "School of the Student". Each year 1100 school
kids arrive at the reenactment site for the "school". We have six stations set up and the students rotate through
each one. Stations include flag history, infantry, cavalry, artillery, and camp life.  We encourage spectators to
visit the camps and ask  questions.   The reenactment is held on a 120 acre farm on the outskirts of DeRidder,
La.   The reenactment is held the last full weekend each February.
  • Monthly meetings. Good camaraderie and educational programs.
  • Marking and cleaning Veteran's graves.  We are in the process of cataloging all the Confederate Veteran's
graves in Allen, Beauregard, and Vernon Parishes of Louisiana.  This is a slow process so please continue
    checking the site for changes.
  • Reenacting. Many of our members are also members of Semme's Battery, 19th La. Infantry or Spaights'
Battalion.  You do not have to belong to the SCV to reenact with us and you do not have to reenact to belong to
    the SCV.
  • Memorials: We regularly participate and sponsor memorials for Confederate veterans.
  • Living Histories, fairs, etc.
  • School presentations: Members go to schools and do Show and Tell.    Teachers in Allen, Beauregard, and
Vernon Parishes of Louisiana and Newton County, Texas are encouraged to contact us for info on school
    presentations.
  • Participate in Heritage Defense.
